The filmmakers unwisely decide to deviate from the formula and not make Jason the protagonist in this entry resulting in the long running series' worst entry. Ridiculous even in comparison to the other silly entries. It wouldn't get this bad again until they sent him into space...wish I was kidding.
Utter crap. I appreciate the attempt to change directions, but it's so clumsy and hamfisted with an over-abundance of kills and a sleazy tone courtesy of softcore porn director Danny Steinman. And do not even compare this pile of garbage to Halloween III because that's just insanity. Thank god the real Jason returns next go round!
A New Beginning has a great concept, but an awful execution. Look I applaud the idea of taking the series in a new franchise. However, this movie is full of obnoxious characters, bland kills and missed opportunities. At the end of The Final Chapter they hinted that Tommy Jarvis will carry on Jason's mantle! Do they continue that storyline? NOPE! They just tease that maybe it'll happen in the next movie...
"Friday the 13th" meets "Scream"?! The way they tried to keep Jason alive could have worked and I thought it was an original way to continue his legacy but, somehow, the movie didn't even tasted like "Friday The 13th" once you discover who's behind the mask. Weak killings, forced plot and numb characters. A shame that this part differs from the first four entries not in a good way.
I love this film, but I resign to the fact that it will, unlikely, be able to find a wide audience because of its overtness. Look, the halfway how is labeled. "Just like they done to that piggo over at that fucking crazy farm- Hiya!" People outside the readjustment home are generally far more nuts than the ones within. It's hilarious, amazing, and it says something. You cannot point out the psychos in this world.
I thought we were supposed to lament the death of a mentally challenged character, not welcome it out of said character's annoyance. The fifth entry in the "Friday" franchise" is the most genuinely loathsome entry in the entire series, an intriguing concept spoiled by an ugly script, unlikeable characters who can't be killed fast enough and a general sleaziness overshadows any good that can be said about this.
