What are people saying?

  • HM's rating of the film Girl from the South

On surface a soft and sentimental story, but underneath a kind of 'wolf in sheep's clothing' critique of wealth, race and class divides in 80s Britain. Some neat references to Woolley's earlier experimental work, as in the manipulative use by the heroine of her would-be boy's favourite classical music in a seduction scene. Good perfs from young cast and great final role from veteran Rosamund Greenwood. Worth a view.
