Witnessing the birth of an A-list star, and of a gifted writer-director, no small feat for a debut Feature film. Michelle Rodriguez steals the whole show, but the film is very subtle in its approach to violence, almost surrounding, precisely like a boxer does inside the ring, narrative mimicking camera work, mimicking character arcs, etc. Stellar job Karyn! :3
Definitely not on the heavyweight category but this was an acceptable boxing movie.
The story has a few good moments and an interesting plot but keep overlooking to develop the secondary characters and their stories. All revolved around Michelle Rodriguez's character and it felt too much considering the fact that i liked some other characters.
The debut film of Michelle Rodriguez. 6.5/10
I can't believe how bad this was. Every single moment is so telegraphed and so overwrought. The performances vary from good (Mantegna) to absolute garbage (Michelle's high school friends). The character arc and story is so one dimensional. There is a natural sense of inspiration in a story like this, just like there is in Rocky 7, but that simply won't cut it. Kusama got way too much slack - doesn't match the praise.
