The screenwriter has the sense to fill all the downtime between monster fights with human fights, making the exposition drag a little less than it tended to in previous films. Its still goofy and stupid and boring at times but it has spikes of great fun and doesn't deserve the generally hostile reputation it holds among kaiju fans
Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus) directs the 28th Godzilla film and makes a chaotic and nonsensical mess out of it. The premise of Godzilla having to face the majority of his foes once more should have been exciting but Kitamura has to throw in kung-fu fighting aliens and mutants as well and the film drowns in its own stupidity. Would prove to be the last Japanese Godzilla film for 12 years.
