  1. Aardsy's rating of the film Goodbye, Mr. Chips

Sassy school boys through the years!

  2. Kelvin Thompson's rating of the film Goodbye, Mr. Chips

2-3. I would agree that it's somewhat overly long. But if one can endure the lack of conflict, they're likely to find a gentle sort of beauty in the way the lead character evolves from a shy young man into a good-humored, patriarchal figure, gradually finding his place in the system of life as a father figure to generations of young boys. It really does require some patience to get to that point, however.

  3. SpacePirate's rating of the film Goodbye, Mr. Chips

A lovely charming film. Donat is at his best here, arguably his best performance after 39 steps. Greer Garson is a personal fav of mine, she was just a treasure. One of her earliest films, yet she shows her chops and elegance off nicely. Very similar to her performance in Random Harvest actually. Sam Wood is interesting as I know him more for his Marx bros films. Cool to see he also made films like this. Great story

  4. Howard Fritzson's rating of the film Goodbye, Mr. Chips

The four stars are for Robert Donat. I think he had the most distinctive voice in movies after Roger Livesey. This film showcases him superbly, even though it is too long and too sentimental. Who cares?

A grand piece of Hollywood moviemaking, impeccable in every way, with a splendid performance from the underrated Robert Donat.
