Ratings & Reviews

  1. Matt Richards's rating of the film Google and the World Brain

An intriguing glimpse from the complex crossroads where copyright vs preservation vs the free dissemination of knowledge and the danger of corporate digital monopoly. It goes one step further suggesting that Google's book scanning project was in fact an effort to create Artificial Intelligence. 3.5 stars

  2. MATTEO BITTANTI's rating of the film Google and the World Brain

To paraphrase Stalin, If you steal one book, it's a crime. If you steal 10 million, it's simply Google. As Jaron Lanier put it, "a book is not an extended tweet". Look for Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass" under the Gardening section in Google Books. Just remember: don't be evil (tm).

  3. Matthew_Lucas's rating of the film Google and the World Brain

Condescending, disingenuous documentary about Google's project to create a vast world library by scanning every book ever written in their database. Interviews people on both sides of the debate, but treats Google like some kind of dystopian sci-fi Big Brother, even using the fiction writings of H.G. Wells to create alarm. Dishonest, manipulative documentary filmmaking at its worst.
