Relatively fun family horror adventure in the vein of Monster Squad, but it's neither humor, scares and adventure are not as satisfying and sophisticated. The scares in particular become so muted with CG effects, and their conception rarely goes beyond having a horde of creatures running. More thoughtful setpieces around the specifics of the monsters would have worked beautifully. Still, this vein is always pleasant.
Meh. A string of bald fanservice set pieces that don't share the spirit of the books. Has an affable sense of humor, though. And the insights into R.L. Stein's relationship with his own work showed promise. If his character had been the focus of the movie, it could have been a lot better, I think.
Enjoyable yet disposable flick with likeable leads and some solid direction. I expected more from Elfman´s score to be honest and the script was a bit all over the place. I wish the focus had been on the movie being a bit scarier (cause it isn´t) and a wee bit funnier. Still good entertainment for a dark and stormy night.
