A simple plot lined with enjoyable characters; I'd say that's both the strength and the weakness of this film, with its primary flaw being that many of the scenes with these supporting characters that play such a huge role in Elle's life and shape her character feel rushed for the sake of time. Other than that it's a fun movie.
Liberal grandma of the year award goes to... Hell to the yes! This is a whimsical bit of taboo-breaking, indier-than-thou, 'Little Miss Sunshine'-esque slice of endearing American social realism. Admittedly, the rote indie clichés abound but Lily Tomlin is so good, these tropes are almost entirely forgiveable.
