Ratings & Reviews

  1. SpacePirate's rating of the film Grass: A Nation's Battle for Life

A revolutionary film in the documentary world, and must be seen by fans of the genre. This paints a vivid picture of life prior to the industrial revolution. We are now in the age of the digital revolution, so I feel a new doc is necessary so that future generations can understand what it was like before this era swept the world. Cooper and Schoedsack helm another winner, like the later Chang. 4 stars

  2. Aardsy's rating of the film Grass: A Nation's Battle for Life

A world where dogs and camels get along!

  3. Bryan Hickman's rating of the film Grass: A Nation's Battle for Life

A handsomely made and well-edited movie about the "valley of promise that beckons" these ethnographic filmmakers to follow a Bakhtiarian tribe on a rough journey - predictable racism ensues

  4. Ricardo Andrade's rating of the film Grass: A Nation's Battle for Life

"He does not hunt for sport - he kills for food." Brilliant account of animal resilience in pre-industrialized territories, while also foreshadowing Artavazd Peleshian´s "Seasons of the Year".

  5. msmichel's rating of the film Grass: A Nation's Battle for Life

First film by Cooper and Schoedsack following their `1924 journey with persian nomads across a vast plain, river and mountain to better grazing grounds. Quite monumental for the time period creating a landmark documentary that stands the test of time pretty well. Still some quite breathtaking images. Milestone reissue from 91 seen with new soundtrack and some colour tinting.
