    Stack is another ambivalent Tourneur protagonist in a story with a rich colour scheme and an impressive range of themes. As usual with the director the sentiment is turned down - note the low key love scene with Mayo. Special set piece: the doctor's appearance!

    Middle of the road Western with some terrible dialogue which kept getting caught in the actor's mouths, especially Virginia Mayo. Robert Stack was one-dimensional, the boy unnecessary, Civil War rivalries were clumsily tethered script motivations, rote low-angle shots of heroic principals posing against the sky to patriotic score. Regrettably, Ruth Roman's decollete was the only dimension to be found.
