De Palma's preoccupation with surveillance begins in part here with characters' conspiracy theories and love of Antonioni's Blow-Up. Otherwise a mostly-dull counterculture hangout movie.
Insufferable, borderline unwatchable early film from a man otherwise incapable of making unwatchable films. Draft dodgers, JFK conspiracy buffs and free lovers all appear, though to little effect in my mind. The mood is zany, it feels heavily improvised which is usually excruciating when done poorly, like here. Not uncharacteristic, with peeping tom De Niro being quite De Palma.
This is some great early DeNiro and in a comedic role too. It just proves that DeNiro can do anything and make it look great.
Genial filme.
Has some really funny moments (my favorites is De Niro directing the girl on going to sleep) but could be pretty boring and drag on. Robert De Niro of course is great, but I felt the guy obsessed with the JFK assassination was good and funny too. Sometimes its seemed political intentions bothered me. Overall, it's a fascinating historical document of its time, but an ok movie.
