Ratings & Reviews

  1. Wee Hunk's rating of the film Hadewijch

The obvious comparison is not Bresson, but 'The Sound of Music'. Captain von Trapp is in prison, but always there and invisible. She believes that God is guiding her, and doesn't exercise free will. Dumont is always provocative, so the movie is unpredictable. There is much left for interpretation, which is why he's such a great filmmaker.

  3. Joaquín Font's rating of the film Hadewijch

  4. Daniel's rating of the film Hadewijch

  5. Il secondo maestro del revolver's rating of the film Hadewijch

  6. Sander Moyson's rating of the film Hadewijch

Young individuals in their naked innocence. Presence and absence. In between: a longing for love.

  7. Louis Léonard's rating of the film Hadewijch

  8. Peter Johann's rating of the film Hadewijch

The most powerful and perfectly Bressonian Dumont film I have yet seen.

  9. Michael Harbour's rating of the film Hadewijch

The protagonist's identity and self-worth is tied up in faith to such an uncomfortable degree that she's asked to leave a convent, but she soon finds a place for her faith in the outside world. The really interesting concept is that having faith is most essential to her; much more essential than what she has faith in, that's rather mutable.

  10. Lucii Lugo's rating of the film Hadewijch

  11. Erick Flores Garnelo's rating of the film Hadewijch

  12. Dakkini.'s rating of the film Hadewijch

  13. azoulay's rating of the film Hadewijch

  14. Rafael Zen's rating of the film Hadewijch

Definetely not my cup of tea. Slow and contemplative, this story didn't really get me. It's not a bad movie, it's just not the kind of cinema I like watching.

  15. Charphia's rating of the film Hadewijch

    Captivating but slow-moving.

  16. CarlosEsquives's rating of the film Hadewijch

  17. Dennis Morgan's rating of the film Hadewijch

For someone who has no faith Dumont seems obsessed with it. So many of his films deal with religion and yet he has nothing interesting to say, he just uses religion to provoke, but to me that's so passe. People of the persuasion who are easily led will fall under the same spell of politics, the media, society, racism etc etc. Our human nature to follow and be part of something will be there with or without religion.

  18. le Gars's rating of the film Hadewijch

  19. Sthirabandhu's rating of the film Hadewijch

dull & only serves to convince me further that religious people are sad, distraught, confused and in many case psychotic. we need to move on from the belief in a creator god, it is the undoing of mankind so long as people relinquish responsibility for their own actions and feelings to external forces.

  20. Ben O'Connor's rating of the film Hadewijch

very moving and mysterious... a great director

  21. raggiodisole's rating of the film Hadewijch

An excellent treatise on religion, and powerful in displaying how fundamentalism can prey on vulnerability, while both appear to support the same belief.

  22. Miggy Angel's rating of the film Hadewijch

i'm a fan of dumont's films & while i did enjoy this i was left disappointed. the muslim characters are incredibly underwritten. the terrorism angle seemed entirely spurious, an outsider exploiting the cache of extremism to furnish his philosophical/theological agonising. not without its moments tho. also needs pointing out that the version shown on mubi was not the 120min version but the 100min

  23. Ben Dooley's rating of the film Hadewijch

A strong performance from its central actress. I'm fascinated at the moment with films about the compulsion to religious belief, by directors who remain at some distance. I felt a little unconvinced by some of the developments in the plotting, in terms of whether the terrorist activities could really be believed, but it's really more of a fairy tale than anything else - and as that I found it very powerful.

  24. Héctor Olguín's rating of the film Hadewijch
