A gruesome account of what happens to a person in war and during the Communist Soviet Union. It is an okay "biography" of how Hannibal became a killer written by the writer of the character, but why do all psychopaths and evil villains need to have a tragic childhood and the film feels like an exploitation movie made for gore and shock moments with no love to it. Terrible acting by the lead actor too. Avoid it.
Hannibal Lecter? Seems like it could be his cousin, but the Lecter we see in Silence is very different from this. They leave Lecter in a delusional state at the end of it and in the other films (the stories that would follow this one) he is anything but.
Plot driven yet unfocused and completely unscary it feels like a Cliff notes version of a book which is too bad because Rhys i fans and gong li are pretty good in it. Good production value is wasted because it should have been an interior movie and it feels too exterior.
