Ratings & Reviews

  1. Wee Hunk's rating of the film Harper

This seemed like an episode from 'The Rockford Files'. The soundtrack, the title design, the frozen last shot. The whole thing seemed a bit casual, with Paul Newman as the wise-cracking detective.

  2. Eric Eidelstein's rating of the film Harper

No one will ever have Bogey's specific brand of warmth, charisma, and sex appeal, but Paul Newman certainly holds his own in what is clearly a tribute to the smart asses made famous by Bogey. Plus, Lauren Bacall shows up!

  3. Matt Reddick's rating of the film Harper

This would've been a great tv pilot... Surprisingly entertaining, with some great dialogue.

  4. J.J. 'Jake' Gittes's rating of the film Harper

This is very simple-minded entertainment. Nothing special, at times even boring and only gets it's 'charisma' from Paul Newman. For me this is not good enough.

  5. SpacePirate's rating of the film Harper

This movie is carried by Newman just being the coolest dude alive in movies at the time. He just makes every scene work in a film that would likely be a trainwreck without him anchoring the proceedings. I didn't particularly care for the ending, but it was a fun ride. Recommended. Extra star added for Paul's endless swagger here. 4 stars

  6. Aardsy's rating of the film Harper

    The happiness market's crashed, baby!

  7. José Neves's rating of the film Harper

TV. Cool for a cat. One of those films where the industrial values are calculated for an entertainment above the sum of its parts and in which the language without venturing finds a point of harmony that simultaneously does not innovate but finds imagination in its cliches, being a very playful reconstruction of the thriller. The cat is obviously Paul Newman, here in one of the peaks of his wounded masculinity.

  8. Federico Di Folco's rating of the film Harper

  9. mjgildea's rating of the film Harper

3 1/2 out of 5 stars. Harper is like the pothead spawn of an alcoholic Raymond Chandler novel. Sure he lives in his old man's shadow and scrambles around more than he needs to. Harper's damn pretty, has a great cast and talks smooth. He's also decent and entertaining despite being scatterbrained as hell by the end.

  10. codyhunter's rating of the film Harper

  11. Ari's rating of the film Harper

The link between late color noir and The Last Goodbye. Has some nice cinematography and great acting but doesn't really come together.

  12. Joseph Judge's rating of the film Harper

Yeah, the only thing that entirely makes the movie worthwhile is Newman. But he's so awesome in everything anyway.

  13. Xurxo G Penalta's rating of the film Harper

the tone it's all over the place, the humor doesn't quite work for me... newman and the film look great...

  14. Catherine Krummey's rating of the film Harper

Paul Newman was perfect in this.
