David Ayer United States, 2005

Ademption's rating of the film Harsh Times

I remember this being unpleasant, boring, and uneven. But its unpleasantness is rather memorable, especially regarding its references to black sites, rendition, anti-intellectualism, joblessness, and general poverty during the height of the Bush administration. Even though it doesn't handle these concepts that well, the film raises them probably for the first time when doing so was verboten.
