Critics reviews

There’s about 30 minutes of actual movie in here, most of it concerning how the song evolved over the past 150 years. . . . Otherwise, what you get is an awful lot of filler, including every performer who ever sang “Hava Nagila,” from Harry Belafonte to Glen Campbell using it as the flip side to “True Grit.”

Patronizing from toe to chin, the film opts continually for self-congratulation and cheesy aphorism, and could’ve-should’ve been comfortable slotted into a half hour of airtime on TJC (channel 528 on Time Warner Cable).

Though it ends on a positive note about the song, the film feels pervaded by the sense that its subject matter is cheesy. Because of this, watching Hava Nagila can at times feel like you’re wasting your time on a subject you might wish you had only accidentally crossed paths with briefly on Wikipedia, which makes it hard to recommend to anyone who doesn’t already have a strong interest or connection to the song.
