Havanna mi amor

Directed by Uli Gaulke
Germany, 2000

Every evening the inhabitants of Havana gather in front of their TV’s to submerge themselves in the world of Telenovelas. These days it seems as though the ancient Soviet television sets can no longer fulfil their wish to escape reality.

  • anarresti's rating of the film Havanna mi amor

Very interesting way of looking at the relationships of cuban couples and their daily routines. Tender portrayal of the love affairs and courtship in Havanna and the way television sets (like cars) get broken and fixed. And relationships do seem to work. I got the sense that cubans, in the way they are presented here, are emotionally very sophisticated. They turn flirt into a high art. Staying in love is an art.
