Ratings & Reviews

  1. Ethan's rating of the film Hell Up in Harlem

Fred Williamson kicks even more ass in this explosive sequel to Black Caesar.

  2. Chuck Vollers's rating of the film Hell Up in Harlem

Not as great as Black Caesar but still a lot of fun. Improvised on the run, shot without permits, on the weekends of Cohen's It's Alive shoot, it's an incredible rush of energy. It doesn't have any real narrative structure, just incident piled upon incident. Julius Harris is great. Fred's good too but seems divorced from his own movie, frequently (and obviously) not even in the same room as the rest of the cast.

  3. Konrad Szlendak's rating of the film Hell Up in Harlem

It falls short to "Black Caesar" and only first 15 minutes are watchable (yeah ok, minus footage from previous movie) due to handheld camera and whatnot. Then messy narrative and sloppy editing take over. Only for die-hard blacksploitation fans!

  4. Scout Tafoya's rating of the film Hell Up in Harlem

It has a foot chase sequence that includes a flight from New York to LA in the middle of it. Unfortunately that's all it's got.
