The House Next Door
Most of these episodes begin and end in media res, often making the gaps between the scenes as noticeable as what happens within them. That may not have been intentional, but it turns out to be a pretty good metaphor for a life defined largely by regular interruptions and absences.

The film's quiet agenda is to convey, through its indecorous aesthetic and storyline and amateur performances, the unforgiving banality and lack of financial opportunity that drives Mexicans to America. It's a confident vision, but its aversion to sentiment has the intended but unfortunate effect of making the characters' disconnects our own.
