A lot of psychology for 12 minutes. Good thing the wife is played by the director - it helps to validate the sex and submission game. Abandoning oneself to become a sexual object is more common than many would admit. The need for the man to be in control in order to get off is much more troubling. The last look on her face says something else altogether. This would make an interesting first date conversation starter.
I don't know what her message is, but this frightened me. I fear that men increasingly expect this kind of domineering sexual relationship with female partners. There was no love between them. Though this is probably just games, I can't see it that way. He never smiled, laughed, or kissed her. Perhaps Im touchy and missing the point, but all I saw was an abusive relationship. Good technical filmmaking though.
How did they come to be married and have a child? How did she get stuck in this mess? I don't think it's a couple pushing the domination game to the limit, I think she is about as willing a participant in the rest of her life as she is in this sex charade... In a few months she'd take herself right off that balcony, but with only 12 minutes alone with this character, we'll never know what came before or what's next.
I'm kind of surprised to see the hugely negative reaction to this one. I don't think it's porn—if you're too unsettled to be aroused, how could it be? The fact that the lead actress is also the director adds an element to its meditation on the lengths an older married couple will go to to get a release from the stress of their life. Bizarre and purposefully provocative, but I don't think it deserves to be panned.
