I think this film is overlooked for its (probably unintentional) parable take on multiculturalism. I wouldn’t call the first act a “silly battle of the sexes”, especially when the conflict is clearly based on culture not really gender focused marital domestics … but hey, that’s just me. The fight scenes are so cool too.
What starts off as a silly battle of the sexes evolves into one of the most satisfying Shaw films as a Chinese martial arts master finds himself challenged by 7 Japanese masters due to a misunderstood letter he sent to his Japanese bride. Fight choreography is quite spectacular as is the lead turn by a young Gordon Liu.
