Ratings & Reviews

  1. mubianer's rating of the film High Hopes

3.5. Idealism had given way to pessimism and dark humour. The yuppies had invaded your family and neighbourhood. London wouldn't get any better. 30 years on, still very much a city of haves and have-nots.

  2. FISCHER's rating of the film High Hopes

  3. Lorna Singh's rating of the film High Hopes

A comedy with believable and likable characters, with an apt title Highly recommended.

  6. Allison Rung's rating of the film High Hopes

  7. Rebecca Lynn Johnson's rating of the film High Hopes

Leigh's filmmaking style is undeniably unique. Does that make his film inherently great? I don't think so.

  8. Ethan's rating of the film High Hopes

A nice look at working class folk trying to get by in Thatcher era England. Cynical with a slight sense of optimism.

  9. Leif Erikson's rating of the film High Hopes

Now... what made this country great was a place for everyone, and everyone in his place. And this is my place.

  10. redux's rating of the film High Hopes

Sarcastic memento for the Thatcher era. Heather Tobias steals the show as the profoundly pitiable monster created by the rat race.

  11. Stevie's rating of the film High Hopes

A brilliantly scathing attack on the pretentious middle class and the burgeoning bourgeoisie.

  12. Samuel T.'s rating of the film High Hopes

“The jerk in the Merc." "The wanker in the tanker." "The weasel in the diesel."

  13. Polyglot's rating of the film High Hopes

I need a Prozac and a cold shower everytime I watch a Mike Leigh film.

  14. Jeremy Ashlyn's rating of the film High Hopes

    interesting bedfellow to Another Year

  15. Alvi Ifthikhar's rating of the film High Hopes

When i look back later in life, this film will be high on the list when i explain why i consider family drama to be my most favorite genre of all time.

  16. Richmond Hill's rating of the film High Hopes

One of those Leigh dramas that comes off like twittering birds scratching around in their lovely gutter. The blunt attacks on British politics of the day look as flimsy now as they did at the time.
