Ratings & Reviews

  1. Richmond Hill's rating of the film Hilary and Jackie

A far too workmanlike filmic approach is here taken to someone who soared artistically and - sadly film nectar here - triumphed over adversity. As a result it remains rather boxed, like a TV film (which it partly was): short on inspiration but high on muck-raking in the inter-familial bed-hopping (no doubt the commission clincher). Watson nevertheless triumphs in the lead role and doesn’t overdo the sympathy.

  2. Aaken's rating of the film Hilary and Jackie

What an extraordinary actress Emily Watson is. Retelling the tragic story of Jacqueline du Pré was not an easy challenge, and she dived and re-emerged with a wonderful composition.
