Ratings & Reviews

  1. Filipe F. Coutinho's rating of the film Hoffa

A compelling performance by Nicholson is overshadowed by a meandering and repetitious narrative. There’s many interesting moments, but Mamet seems to get lost in the minutia of Hoffa’s intricacies without ever framing them in the story at large. Ultimately, despite covering a lot of ground, the film feels incomplete. PS. Boy, is DeVito having a lot of fun behind the camera with those transitions...

  2. Mtume Gant's rating of the film Hoffa

Devito’s fictional character is the poster child for why fictional characters are terrible ideas in biopics. It could have worked if the film didn’t aim to be a biopic. If they aimed to do some kind of real expressionistic film about Hoffa Devtio’s character could have worked as some kind of emotional representation of Hoffa’s contradictions, maybe as a person who never existed, but it lives to literal & it failed.

  3. saptarshi's rating of the film Hoffa

indiana is a fascinating state, home to hoffa, debs and a homegrown left wing in usa which u seldom see represented

  4. hemachandra's rating of the film Hoffa

The film doesn't do justice to David Mamet's underrated screenplay.

  5. mjgildea's rating of the film Hoffa

David Mamet's screenplay for Hoffa was probably the highlight for me. I love Nicholson but it felt like a caricature more than a performance. DeVito's direction was pretty good but I don't feel like I really missed out by waiting so long to see it.

  7. Knut Morte's rating of the film Hoffa

Wish the working man could still fight back like Hoffa! Great man!

  8. A47's rating of the film Hoffa

Although you should probably just skip the first hour, worth a watch -if only to count the number of times Nicholson says "the wurking' man."

  9. Stephen Campbell's rating of the film Hoffa

Pretty good considering all the scorn poured on it in some quaters,Nicholson is good in the lead and Mamets script crackles .
