  • Zach Closs's rating of the film Hyena Road

I wasn't eager to see another film by Paul Gross after "Passchendaele," which boasted stellar combat scenes but was an insipid ego-vehicle otherwise. Surprisingly, this doesn't masquerade as tribute; it is tribute, and it's easily one of the best war films of 2015. It feels Canadian, as nationalism is muted; instead, it is detailed, respectful, detached. Artfully captures the silences and monotony between skirmishes.

  • msmichel's rating of the film Hyena Road

Well intentioned but dramatically weak film from Paul Gross who after the somewhat contrived 'Passchendaele' that suffered from its love story fails to add any emotional resonance in this tale of the Canadian involvement in Afghanistan. Not without interest but this overlong and weakly acted story fails to engage.
