The second season becomes a bit scotch eggy [crass; whiffy; faintly problematic], but at its most astute IAP perfectly captures a specifically Southern English banality, with Alan's love of Homebase, canal boating holidays and the M45. It's a show for everyone who has indulged wantonly in self-mythologising while secretly knowing how small they really are. As such, Alan is horribly relatable. Charmingly charmless!
