The screenplay was undoubtedly interesting in 1956 but doesn't surprise the 2013 audience who knows now that sport has become a lucrative business for some people. No, I was more focused on Yûnosuke Itô's subtle performance here. He reminded me, apart of a striking resemblance, of the mythical actor Michel Simon. Recommended.
3.4 "In your world you buy and sell people. It's socially condoned human trafficking." In a time where unscrupulous super-agents get fat on players and sporting clubs are willing to spend hundreds of millions on the next big-time Charlie, the themes explored here are perhaps even more relevant today than in 1956.
