Ratings & Reviews

  1. Diderot's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

Largely underrated Antonioni that's a welcome reunion of some themes from L'avventura and Blow-Up.

  2. FISCHER's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

    >>> Oeuvre rigoureuse d'un maître incontestable du 7e Art qui reste fidèle à ses thèmes majeurs... www.cinefiches.com

  3. Lynch/Fellini's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

A light, but strong work from Antonioni, featuring some of the finest examples of his signature framing.

  4. Erik F.'s rating of the film Identification of a Woman

3.5 stars. Not Antonioni's best film, but contains characteristic moments of indescribable beauty, menace, and resonance.

  5. Bonnet Michel's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

  6. DSPRKY's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

The 80s (discarded hypodermic) and the film–reality divide are on trial in this very personal study of existential malaise. Our protagonist lives a circular life and circular lies; despite a brief moment of clarity on the Venetian lagoon ("one hopes solitude will stir the imagination"), his science-fiction film proves that there is nothing new under the sun, whether it be a literal star or merely a vaginal symbol.

  7. grotescsetorg's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

  8. ranchocarne's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

Ah, the power of the 1980's to destroy something beautiful... You get the occasional beautiful shot, but this is a mess, both aesthetically and in terms of screenplay. Almost self-parody. At least Antonioni had te excuse of doing this in early 80's, some Brazilian directors were stuck here until mid-00's. The 2nd star is to the ending, I love it.

  9. Ethan's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

This movie was just too damn slow, even for Antonioni. All in all it just lacks that certain passion that so many other Antonioni films had. The best part of this film is the amazing fog sequence but sadly that is not enough to save this film.

  10. Ricardo Branco's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

I was thinking of 4 stars, but then i let it soak in. The scene with the fog is stupendous and the ending is just perfect. A world dominated by women, a man's obsession with the feminine figure. Or the whole world obsessed with it: Mavi looking in the mirror while the director makes her come is not narcisistic, is more of homoerotic. Women are always Antonioni's favorites, but in here he pays is definite homage.

  11. kmbasad's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

  12. Noah Friedman's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

Antonioni takes on FOMO, bourgeois paranoia, the expanding sun and much more in this perhaps unfocused but very interesting and engaging film.

  13. Wee Hunk's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

Tragic misfire, because Antonioni is a genius. You can see how he assembled the pieces, but he just didn't know how to put it together. Perhaps a bit blinded by his love of the naked female form which started with 'Zabriskie Point' and ended with 'Beyond the Clouds'.

  14. Max Seqgar's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

That masterful ending! Although funny how the 80's really cheesed out so many great filmakers from the 70's. Maybe the cocaine?

  15. Kristofer Franzén's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

När de mest trovärdiga scenerna är nakenscenerna. När regissörens namn fixade budgeten och alltför stor del gick till kokainet.

  16. Mistery Soap's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

  17. João Eça's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

pretentious late bullshit from antonioni without any of his early existential angst or feelings of void. the corny sex scenes are ridiculous. only the scene of the driving in the fog has some menacing and disturbing atmosphere, but it doesn't evolve into anything.

  18. tintinmugshot's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

  19. Atzin Ortiz González's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

A complex (yet rather uneven) take on love, lust, obsession & art creation that's quite demanding with Antonioni's fascinating use of editing & ellipsis. (3.5)

  20. Stevie's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

Antonioni's use of the landscape and surroundings is again highly prominent here. The fog scenes in particular are glorious.

  21. Mr. Dude_o_o's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

Watching Antonioni's films is like being in love for me.

  22. Sunrise's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

A subtle, but masterfully implicit plot point: at the first party, as soon as Niccolo forces Mavi to listen to an argument that she'd rather not -he simultaneously stops her instinct for casual disregard while also validating it as the plausible reason behind which she'd no longer maintain her 'society' associations. An amazing conflict of observed un-desirable 'character' and the ironic desired consequences of such!

  23. Tigrão's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

  24. Graham Duncan Hill's rating of the film Identification of a Woman

By the time I finished watching this film, it felt like I had watched five films. It wasn't bad - I still liked it - it was just difficult to identify with.
