France was known for its arthouse dramatic fare and for its long neglect of homegrown genre films, especially horror. Inside shows that so-called bad taste is akin to giving the middle finger to the polite charm of the bourgeoisie in its total lack of regard for anything resembling 'politically correct' cinema from its opening scene. It's also one of the more unnerving and disturbing films of its decade.
As Ian Curtis used to say: bloody hell.(Watched this back to back with Martyrs: this being the 'good one') A film that levels the playfield for women inside the horror genre. They're merely victims of fate and unfortunate circumstances. One lost her baby in the accident, the other is grieving & expecting. She won't give up her child, she'll die trying. And trying she did. Dalle is the wrecked woman with a plan [cnt]
4 - Bog-standard horror flick with hilariously inept characters (it taps into the well-worn trope of the dumb-as-a-bag-o'-hammers cop, and it does so with gusto) and the compulsory twist, that tries and fails to instill some human drama into what amounts to an evening at an abattoir. Nice gore, though.
Downright terrifying home invasion French horror film from debuting directors Bustillo and Maury and still their best to date. Beatrice Dalle gives a fantastic performance as a woman looking to regain what she lost in a horrific accident with extremity. Paradis as the pregnant victim is just as magnetic. As frightening now as it was when it debuted in '07. A little grand guignol towards the end though.
