Captivating and inventive cartoons help make complex philosophical ideas come to life. Not to say this isn't an interesting film, but it could have more going on. Essentially just an animation of a conversation, you can't help but wish there was more too it, something to add a little more meat on its bones. The conversation is indeed a fascinating one, but there is a feeling that it is lacking.
This docu-animation is a brilliant idea on paper and it does have moments of pure delight, but one can't help but feel somewhat disappointed about the direction Gondry took/wasn't able to take. The drawings provide fantastic depth to a conversation that often lacks it, mainly due to filmmaker's inability to really test his subject. Still, it's highly informative and some mental masturbation never hurts.
