Ratings & Reviews

  1. Aivaras_Z's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

A quite interesting biographic contextualization of Chomsky's linguistic ideas and views of the world. Animation does get annoying at times.

  2. -REM-'s rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

  3. Ordet Ordet's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

in the Godard's interview with Lemonde: "Je ne sais pas si vous connaissez un petit film de Michel Gondry, très joli, une conversation avec Chomsky. C'est un travail incroyable qui, à la longue, devient un peu répétitif…"

  4. Daniel Garcia's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

  5. unearthly_red's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

the animations are cool, but the subject is kind of repetitive, plus the misunderstandings are kind of annoying because they take up time but don't add substance. idk, at least now i want to read chomsky's books on language

  6. Superfrog's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

Two of the people I enjoy the most chatting away, supported by great imagery. I did not have to work but it does. A truly special experience.

  7. Sophia Park's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

Michel Gondry animates the worst podcast you've ever heard. Constant misunderstandings between the two and constant repetition of the same ideas make this feel much longer than it should.

  8. Tiphaine Tatin de Lattre's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

Linguistics can be a rather boring thing to study (rewarding, but boring). In this film, it's trippy and Gondry's thick accent made it funny.

  9. Alexander Dunkelberger's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

Captivating and inventive cartoons help make complex philosophical ideas come to life. Not to say this isn't an interesting film, but it could have more going on. Essentially just an animation of a conversation, you can't help but wish there was more too it, something to add a little more meat on its bones. The conversation is indeed a fascinating one, but there is a feeling that it is lacking.

  10. thomasjeff16's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

  11. Andrew Miller's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

Always a pleasure to spend time with Chomsky, but I couldn't really see what Gondry's (nice) visuals really added to the film, thematically.

  12. ninchok's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

Besides being the most beautiful and ethereal documentary I've ever seen, it also really helped me with my final paper with its concept of Psychic Continuity.

  13. Some Wouter's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

  14. Diogo Pires's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

  15. Rodrigo's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

"Boo-hoo, Chomsky didn't get my question! Boo hoo, my accent!". Less whining/justifications and more Chomsky would've been nicer.

  16. Coelho's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

Chomsky keeps this interesting. Gondry, however, manages to make it a complete and utter mess as well as he fails to sustain the conversations

  17. João Gou's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

    Desenhos confundem o diálogo. A substância perde-se.

  18. Filipe F. Coutinho's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

This docu-animation is a brilliant idea on paper and it does have moments of pure delight, but one can't help but feel somewhat disappointed about the direction Gondry took/wasn't able to take. The drawings provide fantastic depth to a conversation that often lacks it, mainly due to filmmaker's inability to really test his subject. Still, it's highly informative and some mental masturbation never hurts.

  19. The Macho King's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

    Simple concept with awesome execution.

  20. smndvdcl's rating of the film Is the Man Who Is Tall Happy?

Chomsky's obfuscations continue to delight, and to have Gondry's kooky illustrations, as a visual learning aid, they form a major platform in comprehending each layer of cerebral golddust developing sentence by sentence. God, I wish I studied linguistics at MIT.
