Istanbul

Directed by Martine Rousset
France, 2007
Avant-Garde, Documentary

Synopsis

Martine Rousset puts on the brakes to the world’s movement through a cinema of deceleration. At the boundaries between image by image movement and optical fusion, the rhythm of the film gives way to a suspended or floating time.

  • José Neves's rating of the film Istanbul

Reminiscences of a journey to Turkey. The transition of what was filmed in Super-8 to its reshooting by 16mm, may have led to a loss in image's concrete definition but, on the other hand, leads to a rescript in phantasmagoria. The "kino-ravishment" of a trip that looks like a figure of thought that autonomously appropriates the space creating a world-other, a world of the autonomy of creation, of its free flow.
