Ratings & Reviews

  1. SpacePirate's rating of the film It Came from Beneath the Sea

This is by no means a classic, but its a really bizarre example of 50s sexism that must be seen. The love triangle between the leads is also odd, in that the two dudes never really seem to be jealous of the other. Just an odd film. Harryhausen does some ok work here, but this is one of his lesser films. First Men on the Moon and 20 Million Miles...are better starting pts. Still fun, if mostly unintentionally. 3 stars

  2. Aardsy's rating of the film It Came from Beneath the Sea

    Something interesting nearly happened.

  3. msmichel's rating of the film It Came from Beneath the Sea

Despite the sometimes innovative stop-motion animation effects of Ray Harryhausen this is one dud of a fifties monster film. The 'monster' has so little screen time that it doesn't compensate for the wooden acting and sexist scripting. Funniest has to be the stock footage of traffic married with the monster effects where none of the cars seem fazed by the events whatsoever. Some unintentional laughs.

  4. TheotherJones's rating of the film It Came from Beneath the Sea

Harryhausen aside, maybe the most sexist movie I can think of.

  5. AKFilmFan's rating of the film It Came from Beneath the Sea

Campy classic sci-fi that isn't perfect but doesn't try to be.

  6. MarcH's rating of the film It Came from Beneath the Sea

Some film theory book told me the monster was a manifestation of the sexual tension between the two leads. I'll buy that.
