  1. Skygazer's rating of the film Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary

  2. Bruna de Moura's rating of the film Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary

ainda à espera de um documentário completo sobre este génio. há tanto para se estudar sobre coltrane e a sua música...

  3. Matt Reddick's rating of the film Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary

Standard fare - talking heads, spewing occasional nonsense like Carlos Santana... excessive zooms on photos, etc. But how many Coltrane documentaries are there...?

  4. shihlun's rating of the film Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary

A massive genius like Coltrane deserves a much better treatment than this aimless documentary. The lazy depiction of Cotrane's deep and liberating "late style" is extremely poor and quite shallow in this film.

  5. Jalise's rating of the film Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary

Huge fan of John Coltrane and a Love Supreme in particular. The presence of the eternal (that love light within us all) in that work is undeniable and overwhelming. John and Alice are relationship goals, one thing i wish is that they would talk about Alice a bit more because I love her so!

  6. Mariana Basílio's rating of the film Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary

  7. Endless Eye's rating of the film Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary

Coltrane is a massive giant of talent who both fell prey to and ultimately transcended and redefined jazz. This film is a largely straight forward approach to a man who's work broke molds. It's a slightly underwhelming approach to such an innovative artist but still well worth the journey.

  8. Renton47's rating of the film Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary

Honestly, they should have just filmed someone scrolling through the wikipedia bio with A Love Supreme on the speakers and saved everyone the indignity of exhuming Bill Clinton's corpse to talk about how slavery existed and gave birth to the blues.

  9. mpho3's rating of the film Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary

"A seductive piece of middle-of-the-road documentary filmmaking; it gives you the basics, but beautifully. (You could walk into this movie knowing nothing about Coltrane and walk out an impassioned convert.)" - Owen Gleiberman, Variety. I'm a diehard Coltrane fan so although this was Coltrane 101, I'm just grateful Scheinfeld gave it a go.

  10. ShawnD's rating of the film Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary

This is probably not a great movie, but its subject was a man deserving of the documentary treatment for some time. Why? Just ask Carlos Santana: "Some people play blues, some play reggae, some play jazz...John Coltrane plays life."

  11. Carlos Filipe Freitas's rating of the film Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary

This film is a beautiful homage to a man who was able to take "Giant Steps" with "A Love Supreme".
