Discreto.
The modern vampire equivalent of what Drive was to action movies: its handsome European 'cool' sensibility is going strong, despite the simplistic screenplay, and thin characterization. Yet, with the lack of nudity, it needed more eroticism to truly capture the sexy, Euro-vampire films of the past. The sex scenes that almost always have all the casts' clothes on seems like a contractual obligation rather than steamy.
an ode to iconic 70's b-erotic horror pictures, cassavete's camerawork is impeccable, the score is absolutely on point, and the atmosphere and mood is all proper. people care about the plot, or the acting in a film like this? that clearly wasn't the intention of the film at all. a fun film worth a lot more than people are giving it.
I'm gonna play devil's advocate here; If not for the visuals what makes a film like Rollin's Fascination such a landmark? It certainly doesn't ride on it's monumental script. We love the classics with their fanciful visual style and whispy plots, but criticize new films for doing the same. At least this doesn't have teen romance, action sequences, or a horrible goth soundtrack like every vamp film of the last decade.
I was expecting so much from that film, huge disappointment, horrible script, the structure of the storyline looks so cheesy and clumsy. When I first watched the trailer, it totally gave me the impression of 70s vampire films (mostly with the music and the font) but sadly it wasn't even close to that, but then again the best things about the film are music, colors and scenery (still love Anna Mouglalis though)
I think that if the relationship between Djuna and Paulo were to be dragged out further and experimented with seduction, it would have made for a nice momentary story that completely falls due to the lack of any real substance to latch on to. In short, it really doesn't go anywhere....
