At it's best when it suggestively hints at the exterior world beyond the narrative; when the shopkeeper tells Li that he's the fifth man he's housed and the previous four have all died, when the Chinese officer describes Li's journey through the police academy. Also the white-haired twin henchmen, who scarcely have a line of dialogue yet their presence nevertheless evokes intrigue, how did they get here? (cont.)
