Heady and hilarious, but I preferred imagining my own images to his similarly-conceived Repetition, for example, with him just providing the words. Cinematically, it leans heavily on a visual humour that verges on slapstick, and wears thin quick. Would've benefited from a stronger director (not an insult; it's just writing that he truly did brilliantly).
A bizarre puzzle box of a film that melds the works of Rene Magritte with the narrative maze writing of director Alain Robbe-Grillet with interesting but middling results. Excellent production values with kudos to cinematographer Henri Alekan and the production design of Aime Deude. Though the film winds up getting lost in its own maze, it's an interesting journey getting lost.
It's strange but nobody seems to watch Twin Peaks in here. With no doubt of a reason, David Lynch watch it prior, and never said. The same atmosphere, photograph, strange characters, subconsciousness, dialogues. It's a lost masterpiece, ignored. If the critics (or Mr. Lynch) payed a very well tribute to this, believe me: All this people who hated this movie would instantly adore it. It's sad but that's life...
A man seems to construct a mystery concerning a feminine submissive for his own entertainment. Or is it the narrator constructing the narrative for another man? At any rate the fantasy eludes them both and they discover they no longer have power over the narrative or its implications. A metaphysical mystery, dreamlike in its gorgeous cinematography and strange aesthetics, the joy of dream infiltration.
What a beautiful film!! In spite of the bad dialogue and a couple of amateur twists.. this film is awesome. This haunting, obscure story ! The imagery/picture is awesome ! If you love surrealist arts, this film will totally appeal to you. In some moments I was sooo stunned. I wish I could watch it in a theater.
Quelle lourdeur !
