Our take

A fractured, coming-of-age portrait of a teenage barber in the wild ghettos of Bogotá, this astutely observed debut from Juan Andrés Arango is an authentic ode to fraternal love. Premiering at Cannes, and teeming with Indio-inflected hip-hop, La Playa D.C. marked Arango as a fierce talent to watch.
