Ratings & Reviews

  1. Matthew Martens's rating of the film Last Summer Won't Happen

"Last summer"--for the filmmakers, 1967's enchanted Summer of Love--may not have happened the first time around either, not in the East Village, not like it did (if it did) in hip's ancestral home in yonder Haight. Still, hippies picked up the trash that summer, man. They were turned on, tuned in, taking over. Here's a fine snapshot of some key countercult dreamers shooting the shit as the dream began to snap shut.

  2. El Biffo's rating of the film Last Summer Won't Happen

Amazing document of N.Y.C., USA in 1968. Starring Abbie Hoffman; with Paul Krassner, Osha Neumann, Phil Ochs and an unnamed teenage runaway who is also great in this very special film that is a small snapshot of a very special time in America. The whole thing is great, but the most precious segment is a speech Abbie gives to The Workmen's Circle, @ the 92nd St. Y. The crowd of (mostly) elderly Socialists reveres him.
