Not sure what barnyard animals and machine tool noises have to do with the male gaze's fascination with the female form over the millennia. Perhaps if Lebel had slowed things down so that we could take in each artifact? Maybe a Bill Viola-esque sound-track? Anyway, this strikes me as ill-conceived and I really didn't get much from it to be honest.
Entre chien et loup. The eternal intermezzo. Morphing is about becoming, plasticity, and ontological instability. Everything was just something else and is about to be something else entirely. Think Heraclitus. Flickering flames. Here we have the eternal intermezzo as sensory bombardment. And as a poetics of the female form set against an abyssal black. There is also, it so happens, absolutely stunning music here.
Deification or objectification of the female body? Both? This film: critical or cynical? Maybe both too. Many of these images bear the imprint of a male gaze and the morphing of one image into another suggests touching, hand-molding. The film exposes thus the male artist's eye and hand as sources of the construction of female beauty associated with erotic love throughout history (mainly in Western art and media).
#Venus #Corto
Yes, this film makes an silly point: the sexploitation of robots, their reduction to penises, the inherent aggression in a lot of our culture's iconographic traditions. And the morphing is a good cinematic tool to show how women look like sausages - but the thing is simply too short to hold the viewer's attention. A 120-miunte-expansion would be the thing.

And the morphing is a good cinematic tool to show how women get torn apart by expectations of the male glance - but the thing is simply too long to hold the viewer's attention. A 10-miunte-condensation would be the thing.
