    Screened @PFA w/live translation and piano! This early film by Abel Gance shows his development. Slithering snakes and poison gas (a huge fear during WWI, before nukes) are meant to provide drama and action, but more important to me is the photography by Leonce-Henri Burel, who filmed Gance's greatest films, and later went on to work with Robert Bresson. Not really a 4-star, but as a huge Gance fan, I was pleased.
