Ratings & Reviews

  1. Myles's rating of the film Like Father, Like Son

Cute kids, but this is maudlin as hell. The director is so obvious with his aesthetic choices that this overlong movie feels particularly slow. "Get on with it, already," was the refrain in my living room as we trudged through two hours of sugar-sweet Prince and the Pauper style fantasy.

  3. kathmeep's rating of the film Like Father, Like Son

Ryota: “In our family, the idea is that one must be independent” Yudai: “In these 6 months, I’ve spent more time with him than you. For kids, giving then time is everything.” Ryota: “There are things at work that only I can do.” Yudai: “But no one can play the role of the father other than you.”

  4. Jugu Abraham's rating of the film Like Father, Like Son

Good original script by director Kore-eda. Good performances by all actors. Above average cinematography. A lovely subject of parents and their relationships with kids, typical in Asia, possibly atypical in the West. It is a film that most audiences would love. The lead actress Machiko Ono was the lead in Naomi Kawase's "The Mourning Forest" and "Suzaku" as well.

  5. Pedro Ramos's rating of the film Like Father, Like Son

powerful messages on education, family and love.

Mizoguchi's subtlety in portraying such poignant emotions is absolutely beautiful. It's such a deep yet sober take at empathy, paternal love, compassion and pride.

  11. Didonne's rating of the film Like Father, Like Son

  12. Lthm2's rating of the film Like Father, Like Son

You can say it is the Thorn Birds all over again, but you can't stop watching how Kore-Eda film the families. Watching these scenes, you know it as a window into modern Japan; but you sail on it as a sailor on life.

Love the kid more because it's yours or love the kid less because it isn't. Who cares.

"Frauentausch" mal anders.

  24. Mr. Paper's rating of the film Like Father, Like Son
