Ratings & Reviews

  1. FISCHER's rating of the film Little Big Man

  3. pluviosity's rating of the film Little Big Man

the jokes was edging to be typical crap, but in the end, the film was not just a comedy, it's the overall picture of American dark sinned history, just like the fall of Mrs. Pendrake.

  5. Daniel S.'s rating of the film Little Big Man

The sum of all westerns. Highly recommended.

  6. Droog811's rating of the film Little Big Man

Both darkly funny and achingly sad throughout most of the film. Dustin Hoffman is great as the 121 Jack Crabb who tells of his unbelievable exploits--living with the Cheyenne, meeting Wild Bill Hickock, attempting to assassinate General Custer. Richard Mulligan is equally great as the crazy General Custer as is Chief Dan George as Jack Crabb's adopted Cheyenne Grandfather.

  7. pellebordeaux's rating of the film Little Big Man

Old Lodge Skins: Let's go back to the teepee and eat, my son. My new snake wife cooks dog very well. Jack Crabb: All right, Grandfather. Old Lodge Skins: She also has a very soft skin. The only trouble with snake women is they copulate with horses, which makes them strange to me. She say's she doesn't. That's why I call her "Doesn't Like Horses". But, of course, she's lying.

  8. ASHES IN THE HOURGLASS's rating of the film Little Big Man

I admire it's attempt to cover a broad range of tones and emotions, from satire to tragedy, but at what cost. As it is, none of these different episodes are given time to have an impact or develop, the transitions between these tonal shifts are often jarring and the film is full of episodes that either go absolutely nowhere or don't seem to add much. It felt like a case of too much variety, quantity over quality.

  9. Genre films > French New Wave's rating of the film Little Big Man

I felt the story was a bit rushed. It almost seemed for a while like a summary of Jack Crabb's life, seeming to skim over the surface of details I wish would've gone into detail. However, I liked it more as it went on. I loved the scene where Jack and Olga are going west and they're getting attacked by Indians, Sunshine's death was hard hitting, and I love the music.

  10. Luca Taurini's rating of the film Little Big Man

Una biografia-denuncia che descrive brutalmente la realtà vista dagli occhi di un ragazzo. Piacevoli i piccoli dettagli raccontati dalla voce narrante che ti fanno entrare nel personaggio. Da non perdere, 4*

  11. Stu Witmer's rating of the film Little Big Man

The bits involving the Cheyennes and Chief Dan George are the best. This is because they are played straight, not for laughs as are the bits featuring the ridiculous, bumbling antics of the clownish white folks. As history goes it's nearly useless. As entertainment, it's way too long. Killer music track by John Hammond.

  12. Ronja's rating of the film Little Big Man

at times so funny and absurd, at times full of pathos. dustin hoffman as a 17 year old Indian looks real funny. Penn manages to reveal people's stupidity in different levels of this film. i think what it lacks is time. it could have been a great tv-series. made me also think of Twin Peaks (the battle scene). + beautiful music

  13. Jamie Scott-Dyson's rating of the film Little Big Man

Alot of heart and soul in it. A very interesting slant on the wild west with grade A performances and music. It suffers from its overly ambitious episodic narrative because it leaves many sections of the film feeling unrealsied and poorly edited. 3/5

  14. msmichel's rating of the film Little Big Man

A picture deserving of a much higher reputation. Penn's and Willingham's revisionist take on the fading of the american west and the reputation of General Custer is a pretty unique experience moving between historical drama and black humour. The score by Hammond is pitch perfect as is the fine cinematography by Stradling. Hoffman is a delight to watch with a great turn by the academy award nominated Cheif Dan George.

  15. The Shadows and Silence's rating of the film Little Big Man

After watching The Searchers again last night, I was reminded how misrepresented the indigenous peoples of America truly are in pre-Vietnam era American cinema so moving straight onto this gem of a film was something of a revelation. Instead of the mindless hordes of sociopathic murderers a la earlier John Ford, Penn masterfully crafts detailed characters who display true humanity in all its beauty and ugliness.

  16. mattavu's rating of the film Little Big Man

  17. Yass's rating of the film Little Big Man

Hoffman est un très bon acteur, et la façon dont les différentes facettes de sa vie s'entremêlent m'a beaucoup plu. En plus, j'ai pu me la péter sur Wild Bill Hicock, donc c'est encore mieux !

  18. lauli's rating of the film Little Big Man

At times it's absurd and hilarious, but then it switches to moments of incredible dramatic depth. Penn takes us on a tour of the Wild West through the eyes of an unlikely narrator, and the result is epic but subdued. I liked this so much better than, say, Dances With Wolves

  19. Christopher R. Smith's rating of the film Little Big Man

It has its moments, but is overlong to the point of being trying. A fine comic performance from Dustin Hoffman, and cinematographer Harry Stradling lenses some striking images of the West; but the whole film has a breezy, light-hearted tone that just makes things awkward when it tries to take a serious turn. An ambitious, but muddled effort. Great folk score by John Paul Hammond.

  20. SALESK's rating of the film Little Big Man

Muddled but fitfully entertaining revisionist western that sometimes delves too deeply into its revisionist fervor that it forgets to spin an entertaining yarn. It's much more fun to talk about what this movie is trying to SAY than it is to actually watch, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you love to analyze movies. Still, Hoffman in his prime is always a treat.
