Ratings & Reviews

  1. CarlosEsquives's rating of the film Little Fugitive

  2. Aardsy's rating of the film Little Fugitive

Search every little farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse!

  3. Nelson Núñez's rating of the film Little Fugitive

  4. FISCHER's rating of the film Little Fugitive

  5. Joe's rating of the film Little Fugitive

What an awesome little film! Entertaining and sweet slice of life, and a great document of a time and a place. The kid playing Joey is perfect, so natural and expressive. Seeing so much of Coney Island back then is amazing. Thanks Mubi, for another film I otherwise wouldn't have seen or known about.

  7. David R Williams's rating of the film Little Fugitive

A gem. A real find. The Coney Island scenes are amazing. Joey on the beach collecting bottles in the rain comprises the history of cinema in that single shot. More neorealism than new wave but that's a minor quibble.

  8. mikeoldboy's rating of the film Little Fugitive

4.5 but I'll swing it up to a 5. A great, semi-forgotten, American classic. Glad I caught this before it left.

  9. Landen Celano's rating of the film Little Fugitive

  10. Loz Loory's rating of the film Little Fugitive

Loved the scene under the boardwalk with light/shadows forming railroad tracks. Loved when he's on the carousel and strokes the non-existent mane of his painted horse. Great to see Coney Island in its heyday. Brilliant, heartwarming, etc. Perfect example of how little dialogue a film needs in order to tell a successful story.

  11. Monkey Flix's rating of the film Little Fugitive

Filmed in the days when men were men, women were women, and children roamed the plains and streets of America without the constant vigil of helicopter parents protecting them from imaginary threats.

  12. Diderot's rating of the film Little Fugitive

On the whole, it's tedious and uninspired. Mostly of historical interest.

  13. Neil troost's rating of the film Little Fugitive

cute! love time capsule look at old nyc. and if only life could be that safe again. kid heads out like that today youd never see him again:(

  14. T Mills's rating of the film Little Fugitive

I can see how much of a breakthrough this was in its time and it still stands up as a good neorealist work.

  15. Ghostman's rating of the film Little Fugitive

An utter masterpiece. Its influence is incalculable. If this didn't exist, one could argue that there would be no Cassevettes, Spielberg, or Truffaut.

  16. Nuno Gonçalves's rating of the film Little Fugitive

  17. SpacePirate's rating of the film Little Fugitive

Its like new wave before new wave even happened. What an essential little film. Also a great time piece for early 50s NYC. 4.5 stars.

  18. Lynch/Fellini's rating of the film Little Fugitive

A lovely filmic tribute to street photography!

  19. EdieEmm's rating of the film Little Fugitive

Somewhere in my mind is this nostalgic idea of "innocence" that I'm never convinced is more than just my little piece of some collective idealistic delusion... But then, here it is, in 1950s New York, naturalistically documented in cinematographically perfect handheld glory. Unassuming and genuinely delightful. And so unlike (here's where I buy into it) our fear-filled social 'progression' ever since. 4.5

  20. José Neves's rating of the film Little Fugitive

23 years later, the wonderful experience of "Menschen am Sonntag" is pursued by a triade of directors, a collective experience like the one before: how to lo(o)se fiction in a world of living? How to live fiction with a camera on the loose?

  21. msmichel's rating of the film Little Fugitive

The American answer to neo-realism? Influential arthouse classic from Engel/Ashley/Orkin that had great influence on the coming French 'nouveau vague'. Resulted in an original screenplay Oscar nod that year. Camera work by Engel quite novel adding to the naturalism of cast and setting. A touch dated.

  22. Théo's rating of the film Little Fugitive

Brillant ! Une belle virée à New York durant l'âge d'or de Coney Island.

  23. Quentin's rating of the film Little Fugitive

  24. Max Seqgar's rating of the film Little Fugitive

What an innocently wonderful movie. Great shots, plot (who said it was improvised?), and contemplative views of what once before Coney Island. Throwback joy!
