  • José Neves's rating of the film Lolly-Madonna XXX

PC. What North-American cinema has done to its tradition of "Americana": in the deep territory of the country, the homogenized communities of collective conviviality have been giving rise to narratives of dysfunctionality, rooted in the classic tragedies, where parents and children love and hate each other till death, literally. A film of dazzling dryness and strangeness, which invades the mythological heritage.

  • El Biffo's rating of the film Lolly-Madonna XXX

Rod Steiger, Jeff Bridges, Randy Quaid AND Gary Busey! The rest of the ensemble cast is also great in this overlooked, underrated gem of 1970's New Hollywood. Casting by Lynn Stalmaster (The Last Detail, Sleeper, Harold and Maude, Deliverance and 384 others), the first recipient of an Academy Award for Casting. He discovered John Travolta, Christopher Reeve, Richard Dreyfuss. An amazing talent that made films great.

  • Wee Hunk's rating of the film Lolly-Madonna XXX

They don't make pictures like this anymore, and thank god for that. It is so overwrought that it's hard to take seriously. I think the center of that maelstrom is Rod Steiger, who rarely passed up an occasion to over-emote. It's as if everyone was auditioning for a Tennessee Williams play. The star power, the waste.
