Something anecdotal on the script level becomes much more with the decision to shoot the film on one take it becomes epic as if reliving one's mistake is Woody's penance! I appreciated his effort and especially his humor of his self-directed performance in this sucessful blending of theatre and film.
an incredible achievement, 1 solo take, beamed live into cinemas, 14 locations, 300+ extras - its insane what they pulled off. they used to make big deal of goodfellas 10min tracking shot- this is a 100 minute take and the cameraman never fucks up once! but the greatest achievement is that a lot of the time you forget it is live and are immersed as you would be in any other movie. impressive, most fucking impressive!
A bit better than a gimmick of this nature should be, but has some obvious shortcomings. To begin with, much of this material would be funny it had been more polished. When you're getting a one-take presentation, you're not getting the best, most convincing acting or delivery. It's daring and fun, but suffers due to its concept. The best work comes in the referential humor, like the Wes Anderson jokes.
