A thoughtful testament to what Portugal was like during Salazar's dictatorship period, which lasted for 40 years, longer than in any other European country. Canijo did a good exercise by juxtaposing the regime's propaganda videos with the recorded testimonies of some of the foreign intellectuals that visited the country during those years.
Thought-provoking and beautifully done, Fantasia Lusitana is one of those films that you can't afford to miss. Deliciously narrated and supported by controversial imagery, it succeeds in making us see how our country was during the years of Salazar's dictatorship. It opens our eyes to the fantasy world Portugal lived in during World War II, such world created by the inevitable tentacles of propaganda. A masterpiece.
