There is no doubt that the twin movies “Nunta de piaträ”, and “Duhul aurului” are among the best made ever in Romania. Both were bought by the Modern Art Museum in New York, and were met with huge acclaim all over the world.
This film is not currently playing on MUBI but 30 other great films are. See what’s now showing
1974 Romanian Bleakfest punctuated by one very lovely pychedelic-style love scene. I gave up trying to read the old white-on-white subtitles after a while. After watching this film, I went back and watched the love scene again, the music which I had initially registered as sitar psychedelia, but seems to be similar but with Romanian folk instruments? If someone knows what exactly, the comments box is below :-))
My first film for the World Cup. If the other films in the tournament are this fascinating, perplexing and great, it was worth getting involved with this sort of thing again after the one two years ago. Now I just need to plan out when to watch the other films.
