“Mamma Gogo” mixes fantasy, fiction and reality in many ways, not just in the head of the Alzheimer patient. Some of the references to real life stay hidden to non-icelanders like me, but there’s enough to keep us wondering. “Mamma Gogo” pokes here (movie industry) and there (stock markets) but these elements remain quite superficial filling for the actual story of the mother and the moviemaking son.
I found this film oddly detached and uneffecting even though I have had my own Grandmother go through Alzheimers. The 'satire' on the film industry is nothing we didn't already know and was explored far better in 'the father of my children'. It is well photographed but that was about it for me. 2 stars
