Uomini contro

Francesco Rosi Italy, 1970

dionysus67's rating of the film Many Wars Ago

Not among Rosi's masterpieces, yet this is a relentless descent into the carnage of WWI trench warfare in inverse relation to the anti-war feelings of Italian troops. The worker-soldier is visually captured in the Brewster armour that renders this new massacre akin to children's war games. Acted with conviction by Cuny and Volonté it culminates in a powerful visual statement about granite war ideology. Recommended.
