2.5. Die Genre Mischung ging für mich nicht ganz auf. Gründe den Film trotzdem zu sehen: Musik von David Byrne inklusive Schönem Ohrwurm : New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle Spektakuläre 80er Frisuren - Charles Napier als Friseur !. Und Demmes Verwertung der geschnittenen Szenen, die während des Abspanns dann noch einen Begleitkurzfilm ergeben, der den Charakteren Tiefe verleiht.
Another example of Demme's noteworthy feminist cinema. Using screwball elements to pick apart stereotypes, the filmmaker relies on Pfeifer to carry a hard movie to pull off. And she does it. It's not difficult to understand why she became a star. The goofy elements don't always work for me, but when the film gets it right, it soars. Exquisitely directed!
As with Something Wild, it's Demme's quirky direction & humanist disposition that elevates the film beyond what could've been a fairly standard screwball comedy. The ensemble cast is incredible, with standout turns from Pfeiffer, Stockwell & Modine, but it's the emphasis on the world(s) that Demme creates & the people in it that really gives the film its heart. The vibrant 80s aesthetic only adds to the sense of fun.
Demme takes what could have been a very conventional mob/spoof comedy and turns it into a relaxed wonder full of charm, heart and fun. It is very hard not to fall completely in love with Michelle Pfeiffer in this movie. She carries the film with charismatic aplomb while anchoring it in some of the real world concerns of working moms. "Mob" is bursting to the seams with visual invention. Demme's inspired comedy gift.
A funny flick where clichès gets made into something more than your average mob parody.Demmes uses his stare-into-the-camera direction which he made famous in the silence of the lambs a couple of years later.Dean stockwell is magnificent as the A-number-one mobster who's sucker for a wiff of perfume. Peiffer has the right scent but she is sick of the mafia life.The cat and mouse game is on with the fbi in the middle.
